In my work I value and support:
Whole systems and whole people
Change works to the extent that it addresses the whole system. A system is a "system" because it all "hangs together." It is self-correcting in that it strives toward internal consistency. While creating growth may consist of finding a few effective "leverage points," attention must be paid to the whole system, which it was our intention to affect. The same is true of people. If I don't get enough exercise, simply joining the "Y" may not change things. I may only become another member who doesn't exercise. I need instead to examine my lack of exercise as it fits into the larger pattern of my life.
Full participation
From a personal standpoint, I believe we must be personally present in our lives in order for them to matter - to us or to others. In the organization, I support decision-making processes that involve as many people as possible. For this reason I have concentrated my study and practice on large group techniques. Shared decisions are supported when support is critical to success.
Authenticity
If we don't live by our core values whatever success we may have will be hollow. Businesses that don't follow a set of core values either fail or survive by cheating customers and suppliers and destroying employees. If we don't take the time to identify core values, we - and our businesses - will be like ships without charts. And such ships, sooner or later, will fetch up on a reef.
Integrity
I must do what I say I will, for my own sake as well as yours. I expect no less of you.
Sustainability
Future life on this planet depends upon how we treat the planet today. Our designs and our actions should always take this into account. Similarly, we should build sustainable relationships with others in our life. The alternative is to simply use people - to use them up and throw them away.
Diversity
We need not to merely tolerate diversity but to seek and cherish it. It is the source of all learning. If you and I agree on everything, we can learn nothing from each other.
Vision
There is no substitute for a clear vision. This is not about having some carefully worded phrases to hang on your wall either for your business or for yourself. It's about being totally and unshakably clear about where you are headed - about what the future looks like for you.
Voice
There is an undeniable power in being willing to stand up and speak up for what you believe.
Celebration
We should always take time to celebrate and savor our accomplishments.
